Langkawi’s night markets, locally known as pasar malam, is a lively affair that is held every day of the week, at different locations. Local vendors will set u makeshift stalls along the road and sells all kinds of local food and items from 5:00pm until 10:00pm.
These markets offer a wide-ranging array of inexpensive clothes, fresh produce, watches, sunglasses, wallets and handbags, souvenirs and trinkets. Haggling is practiced in the night markets for non-food items. So try to bargain for the best prices before purchasing. However, keep in mind that most of the wallets and handbags are imitation goods.
Night markets are definitely the cheapest places in Langkawi to sample various types of freshly prepared Malay food. Prices for food generally range from RM2 to RM10. Don’t miss out on the locals’ favourite food such as keropok lekor (fish crackers), nasi lemak, pisang goreng (fried bananas), apam balik (turnover pancake), nasi ayam (chicken rice), lemongrass chicken on sticks, chicken or beef satay, murtabak and green mango salad. I’m salivating while I’m listing this!
